The Map of Imagination

A children's playroom.........A midsummer night's dream

The Map of Imagination is a playful representation of stories, songlines and myths on a map. The Map of Imagination Network is a flexible, creative association of people, organizations and locations, proposing themselves by  by the power of their stories:we are the songs we sing.

Storytelling in its countless forms - from lexical to musical - has many special properties, metaphorical, analogical, non-confrontational. Storytelling shares moods, feelings and intentions as indefinable as they are vital. It is an important cultural, economic and political connector and courier - where concepts and bullet points cannot reach.

This project is founded on the unifying fabric of story and place, of myth and landscape. In this map, Storygardenz, marked as (z), are real physical places where it is possible to experience, practically, what myth, imagination and storytelling are, also through the eyes of great creative people, who live there and have lived there.

On the Map of Imagination, stories, songlines and locations are connected and juxtaposed - as in a playroom, as in a dream - to other stories, peoples, organizations, cultures and noumena (*). As the content of certain regions of the Map develop, it will be possible to enlarge them, as pop-ups, to view their imaginative and story content and to locate the Storygardenz, in order to "do" what imagination, story and garden "do" best:  .....creative thinking (and outside the box), invention, brainstorming, research and development, forecasting (and divining ?), negotiating, diplomacy, training (and re-training), educating (and even unlearning), meta-communication, exploration, re-creation, healing, connecting, reunion....

Our objectives, with the Storygardenz and the stories on the Map, is to develop, through tourism and leisure time - in fact any special time dedicated to creative, contemplative or working retreats - a fabric to serve global communityecology, a sustainable world-life-work-view, and the practice of peace.

(*) A noumenon is something perceptible only to imagination, independent of the senses. Compare with phenomenon, which is something perceptible to the senses.

And dreaming eyes of wonder!
Though time be fleet, and I and thou
Are half a life asunder,
Thy loving smile will surely hail
The love-gift of a fairy tale."
